May try to go sometime.Payout appears nearly identical to Amarillo's.Entries are a few bucks higher.I know the Lubbock guys are wantin some action, but I do hate to see competition for Dennis in his time of disaster.

Let us know what it's like Steven. 8)

The winner money maybe be the same but ru and semi is WAY higher. Its nice to have an alternative within 150 miles. The car count will be high there are twice as many racecars in lubbock than amarillo.

And people wonder why the car count in amarillo is low? Race and support your home track, run its local program and get back what ya put it. Everyone wants to run and race other tracks next door but then bitch about there is no local racing. If there is some huge race that your local track don't have then go for it, but amirrored payout weekly program. Id stay and race at smokin.

We try running our local track but when money sucks and car counts are low and continuous problems you have no choice. Its not the racers in Amarillo that are the problem that should have proven itself by now. When the racers have to work on it and deal with track help that has the IQ of a snail that have absolutely no business at a drag strip, 40 cars take all day to run when i can go to other race tracks that have 150 cars take the same amount of time, I can go on and on but the fact of the matter is its Amarillo dragway. Ive been to more race tracks than anyone around and never seen a place like amarillo, and Im not talking facility cause ive been to worse that was managed just fine we have a descent facility. THE BOTTOM LINE IS YOU HAVE TO PAY MONEY TO GET CARS NOT GET CARS AND THEN PAY MONEY. We proved that ourselves by putting on races of our own out there that had a higher car count than any race in recent memory. I wanna see Amarillo work more than anybody cause I love racing and not having to travel BUT I WILL NOT ACCEPT AMARILLO THE WAY IT IS JUST SO I DONT HAVE TO TRAVEL

What are all the problems, how would you fix them. I agree about the money issue. But from a track owner/managers point of view its hard for them to put out buckets of money when there is no return on investment. I'm pretty sure amarillo dragway needs to hire me as the track manager.

I understand its a big risk but there are 40 plus super pro cars within a 120 mile radius. My suggestion would be invested in some good knowledgealbe help and garuntee some payouts. 700 to win 300 to ru and 100 semi and you won't have to worry about car count it'll take car of itself.

Ya Steven,I saw the RU money.Like I said,I would like to go check it out sometime.Night racin is cool. But the payout difference sure doesn't merit the added travel expense...for me. :D

What the heck are you goin over there to runner-up for anyways??Buckle down man!!Go to WIN!!!

Claydo said some of the supercharger crowd did some testing out there last week.He said he'd let me know how they thought the surface was.I will report. That is unless someone went this weekend to run down there. 8)

Didnt get to go but heard that the track was phenomenal. Super smooth and great bite. Southwest supercharger cars made a few test passes and the voodoo child went 4 4.80s in a row, so it must be good.

Amarillo s track has a long way to go and this year there have been some small changes. For this track to continue we have to support it. I have been lucky and been able to run in Topeka and Ennis which really makes this track look bad. But its the best in the close area and hopefully it will get better fast. Jon needs all the support he can get. Hope the new track runs different weekends then Amarillo. Then they both can get support.

Since Jon instituted the higher payout schedule, we have payed out more at each race (payed 850 in box yesterday w/ 20 cars) so the money vs.cars issue is resolving itself slowly. As for the crew, they were a little green at first, but I have put several months special effort into getting them up to speed, and they have come a long way since the start of the year.

This year is the 50th anniversary of Amarillo Dragway, built in 1960, and yes she is showing her age a little, but this track has seen more action and more famous events and hosted more household name racers over the years than most of you younger "internet junkies" could possibly remember. Thats some of the reasons that its worth it to me to try and keep things going as good as we can out here. The economy has nearly doomed several tracks in Texas this year, and has hurt the turnout here too this year. Were are constantly trying to get things adjusted, and improved and upgraded to the point where we are at the level we need to be, and competitive with any track around. As a local veteran racer recently told me, " You guys are doing all right, so don't worry...Rome wasnt built in a day."

Reminds me of the old joke. "You would bitch if you were hung with a new rope"
Guys the track might not be everything we ever hoped for and some of you might THINK you can do better, but unless we support our local track and support the owner it will dry up and go away. I do not attend nearly as often as I should and plan to remedy that with my new car, but I know I do not want to tow 100 or 250mi to go play. The track crew is doing better and I believe we (racers) are way better off than we were a year ago. 6 years ago this facility was for sale at a bargain price, did any of you heros step up and buy it?

When I go to Noble I know the track surface is better, the shutdown is in good shape and I know that for test and tune night I will be lucky to get in 3-4 runs because of the crowds. It also costs me an extra $90 in fuel and a place to stay.
