wastegate in sc?

My plan is to put a waste gate in the pressure side of the supercharger and then control it with my boost controller. I ordered the 2.87 pulley which should build somewhere from 14-18# boost (1 size in pulley = 1-2 psi) I went 4 pulley sizes down, right now the car will flash 10 at 6700 rpms. so in theory if it builds 18 pounds and I regulate it down to say 15# then it should build more boost in the lower rpm ranges..... correct? Has any one heard of any problems doing this?
once again, in theory couldn't you pulley the car for like 22psi and regulate it down to build even more power down low? _________________ BigBlockRanger wrote: DISCLAIMER I'm not an attorney, but have a 7 y/o kid that probably will be at some point. Either that or a monster truck driver. |

Do it to it
You're approaching the efficiency limits of an S-trim around 20-ish psi, but I don't think it'll have any problems with what you're wanting to do. Worst case scenario is the longevity of the blower is going to decrease a little bit, but a brand new Vortech shouldn't have any problem with it for a long, long time _________________ ![]() If you think an expert is expensive, wait till you hire an amateur |

The problem here is you are pulling hard on the engine and not getting the benifits. On supercharged vehicles unlike turbos it takes a lot of power to make power. By spinning that charger up that high and then blowing off your pressure your probably not going to see much gain. Your just making the engine work harder and wear on the charger by spinning it so high. Also, it's not psi you really want on a charger it's volume. The better VI your engine has the less psi your charger will produce. Make sure you stay within the limits of how fast your charger can spin also. With a 2.87 pulley you will probably still be OK as long as you don't change your crank pulley. I bet a 2.87 is going to be spinning pretty fast though.

correct on a lot of that, the sc I have is maxed out at 21psi I believe, The idea is to bring the boost in faster.
like right now say at 4000 rpms I'm at 4 psi and 9 psi at 6700. I want to run a smaller pulley so I would be at 12 psi at 4000 and at 6700 i would be at 18psi. I only want to run 15psi, so hence the reason I wanted to put in a waste gate. I did find out that the bov I have can bleed excess boost so no need for the waste gate anymore., I just did not know it could do that. _________________ BigBlockRanger wrote: DISCLAIMER I'm not an attorney, but have a 7 y/o kid that probably will be at some point. My boost comes in real slow like that too. Just cruising I will never see more than 5psi max. If you figure out away to make it come on earlier without blowing things up on the top end let me know.
Ah hell! You know what I meant. I normally try to spell correctly, but some things slip. _________________ Formerly known as: Mightymouse355 97 Stang GT, forged, ported, cammed, ignited, and blown. I'm not using first hand experience, just repeating what a lot of guys do over on the corvette forum to achieve what you are trying to accomplish....
ECS, in particular, use a restrictor plate on the intake to the supercharger and run the smaller pulley. The smaller pulley and restrictor makes the boost come on quicker while still limiting the top end. This also eliminates the wasted horsepower of compressing the air and then dumping it off. Here is a pic of a simple home built one...... ![]() _________________ Welcome to the internet, where everyone is a mechanic and has a 10 second car. 2000 Pewter WS6 TA 2002 MY Corvette Coupe |

The AMS boost controller will do exactly that, and it will work justin.. Just spin the hell outta the thing, and use the AMS to manage the air... AMS = Air Management System... I have never seen anyone do it with an eboost though...
I don't recommend it on a TURBO setup (even though a lot are doing it), because the problem of over spinning the turbo comes into play.. On a belt driven supercharger though, you're good to go. _________________ Brant Campbell webmaster@amarilloracers.com ![]()

Here's a link that might be of interest. It has a fair amount of "I've read more text books than you", but over all it should have some decent info for you to digest.
